Is There A Doctor in the house? Yes, actually, and his name is clark butler

“I’m passionate about having a patient population who is engaged in their health as a partnership.”

Dr. Clark Butler shares his thoughts on joining the clinic, working alongside his wife, and a Lego collection that spans two rooms.

Starting this fall, Dr. Butler will be joining the staff at Acupuncture of Columbia to provide an even wider range of wholistic health services and a healthy dose of dry humor.

As we set up for this interview, Clark smiles and laughs, joking about wearing the wrong socks for his outfit. He exudes the genuineness of someone who is at peace with themselves and their environment. He thoughtfully slides my water bottle to me across the table and leans back in his chair as we begin.

What will your role at the clinic be?

I’m not taking over from Gina. My goal is to integrate to the clinic as seamlessly as possible without disrupting the good thing Gina has going. In addition to the quality acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Gina provides I will also be bringing additional dimensions of holistic health. I’ll be drawing on my experience and training in manual medicine (osteopathic manipulations and dry needling), integrative healthcare services, and the ability to order and interpret lab tests to assist with investigative medical assessments.

What unique perspective on medicine do you bring to your patients?

Having been trained in Western and Integrative Medicine along with being married to Gina, I’ve seen the effectiveness of Eastern medicine and how well it pairs with osteopathy. I’m excited for the way our unique skills can work together to bring optimal health to patients.

What is your specialty?

Treating pervasive conditions that really affect a person’s quality of life, ranging from gut health, neuropathy, and fibromyalgia to migraines, chronic pain and arthritis to name just a few.

What are you passionate about in healthcare?

I’m passionate about having a patient population who are engaged in their health as a partnership, people who are excited about naturally optimizing their lifespan and health span, and who want healthy vibrant lives in the most natural holistic way possible.

You and Gina have a great dynamic as a couple. Do you feel like that same degree of teamwork will translate to your work relationship?

I’m confident it will.

What are wellness practices you engage in every day?

I generally practice intermittent fasting, follow a low-carb, high protein diet, and begin each day with a positive meditation and prayer.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

Medicine is not my first career. I switched from electrical engineering to medicine. I am also an avid collector of vintage Lego which to the dismay of my wife, takes up two rooms of our house.

What is a mundane fact about yourself?

Every day I drink black coffee.

What are your feelings about all of Gina’s pets?

Oh, they’re great. We’re coconspirators.
